Please make a note of the new numbers: Voice Technical Support...........913-232-5584 Fax...............................913-232-5585 BBS...............................913-232-5586 (Intel 14.4) 913-232-5587 (Hayes 28.8) TranScan v5.06 (August 1, 1994) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enhancements: ------------- o TranScan now detects the TS5.LST file when you enter menu mode and prompts you to do your Off-Line processing now. o TranScan now detects the TS5.BAD file (which includes more info now too) and prompts you to display it to determine why files failed recently. o Many Set-Up screens now use red asterisks (*) beside filenames to indicate "File Not Found". o Now displays ASCII if the caller is not color or RIP. PCBoard Enhancements & Problem Fixes: ------------------------------------- o TranScan was not working properly in LOCAL mode. Wildcat v4+ Support: -------------------- TranScan v5.06 now works with the new Wildcat v4+ from Mustang Software, Inc. Simply select Wildcat 4+ from the BBS Set-Up menu and make sure your Main "BBS Config. Path" is set correctly. Then "Save" the Configuration and answer "Yes" to the prompts to create the FILEDESC.BAT, SCANFILE.BAT, and append to the POSTCALL.BAT. That's all you need to do. TranScan creates the batch files as follows: FILEDESC.BAT TS5.EXE %1 SCANFILE.BAT IF EXIST FILEDESC.BAD REN FILEDESC.BAD SCANFILE.BAD POSTCALL.BAT TS5.EXE /L NOTES ON WILDCAT v4 ------------------- Files can no longer be converted ONLINE with Wildcat v4+. That means that from the "Default Compressor Set-Up" menu you MUST select: [X] Compress / Convert Off-Line And from the "GIF / JPG Set-Up" you must select: [X] JPG to GIF, GIF to JPG, or GIFLite Offline. Wildcat v4+ also adds a short description if the user does not provide one that says: "No description left by CRAIG DUNSTAN, press I for more information." Therefore, you should NOT use the following option from the "BBS Set-Up" menu: [ ] Add DESC.SDI file. If you should select this option and TranScan does not find a FILE_ID.DIZ or DESC.SDI file and the user did not leave a description then above description will be created in the new DESC.SDI file. General Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o TS5Q.EXE was not calculating and recording the CRCs for Non-Zip files. o If a file failed durring On-Line processing it was still being added to the list for Off-Line processing. This was fixed. Using TranScan with SCAN.EXE v2+ by McAfee & Associates ------------------------------------------------------- The correct command line for using TranScan with the new SCAN.EXE by McAfee is as follows: SCAN.EXE ~F /NOMEM /SUB /STD If you want ALL files and not just executables scanned then remove the /STD. There is also a command line option /FAST that will speed up the scan but it might miss a few viruses. Use this option at your own risk. /NOPAUSE and /NOEXPIRE or no longer supported in this new version of SCAN.EXE. If after changing this command line you receive a "SCAN.EXE error: 2" then you have an older copy of SCAN.EXE on your system. Remove the older version. TranScan v5.05 (June 5, 1994) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ General Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o Some GIF and JPG files were not being identified based on their signatures. These files are identified by their extensions now too. o Fixed problem where date testing was not always ignored on GIF and JPG files when that option was checked. PCBoard Enhancements & Problem Fixes: ------------------------------------- o Messages were not being sent to users correctly through PPE. o User description was being deleted if a FILE_ID.DIZ, DESC.SDI, or GIF comment description was not available for importing. TranScan v5.04 (May 17, 1994) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ General Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o Fixed a "Heap Leak" problem in the ZIP comment routines. (This is the problem many of you reported where TranScan slowly ran out of memory). Enhancements: ------------- o Added a TranScan Quick Scan utiltiy TS5Q.EXE that will quickly add files to the duplicate file database. See TS5Q.DOC for more information. o A number of routines were optimized to provide even more speed to TranScan. o Many improvements were made to the GIF/JPG processing routines. One option added is the ability to STRIP the GIF comment from the GIF file. Also added was the displaying of GIF Resolution and whether or not the file was GifLited in the TS5.LOG file. o Changes were made to routines affecting the TS5.DID and TS5.LST files. These included writing the NEW filename of files converted to these lists instead of the original file name. Failed files are NOT written to the TS5.DID list. o Added additional COM routines to support Int14 ports. This should only be selected if UART proves unsuccessful. It also supports Irq values greater than 7. o Improved DUPE testing. When a file is failed for DUPEs the percentage of DUPEs is reported in the TS5.LOG file. Failed files are not added to the DUPE database. PCBoard Enhancements & Problem Fixes: ------------------------------------- o Improved FOSSIL support for "Willie's Fossil Driver" used by many PCBoard SysOps. o RIP Graphics was not properly detected for all callers. Wildcat Enhancements & Problem Fixes: ------------------------------------- o Added routines to AUTOMATICALLY create the SCANFILE.BAT file and add TranScan to the POSTCALL.BAT file for Wildcat in the Quick Set-Up. TranScan v5.03 (May 2, 1994) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ General Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o Fixed problem with strange characters appearing in the long descriptions in BBS databases and lists. o TranScan was converting imbedded archives regardless of the configuration setting. Enhancements: ------------- o On Picklists TranScan displays the filename (i.e. "PKZIP.EXE") even if you fill in the complete paths on the command lines. Direct addressing was also causing some eroneous "file path not found" messages. o Added a warning bell that sounds on the local console every time a file is failed. This bell can be turned off from the command line with the following switch: /NOBELL o Added ALT-L as a hot key available from any menu or configuration screen. This hot key instantly displays the TS5.LOG file which is filled with helpful information about every file processed. o Improved and optimized date testing routines. TranScan v5.02 (April 25, 1994) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ General Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o Several RunTime Errors were fixed. PCBoard Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o The UPDESC. file is now written to the right directory (%3) which insures that the FILE_ID.DIZ, DESC.SDI and GIF Comments are imported into the file listing. o /CNONE is no longer necessary if you are using PCBoard 15.1+ because PCBoard 15.1+ supports the converting of files during the PCBTEST.BAT process. o If the "Drop File Path" is not defined in the TS5 "BBS Set-Up" it will default to the current directory. This should work fine if you do not change directory before running TS5.EXE in your PCBTEST.BAT file. o The TS5.PPL was not included in the original archive. It will be created as you run the PATCH program. Wildcat Problem Fixes: ---------------------- New Features Added: ------------------- o Added two new command line switches: /NOXMS tells TranScan to NOT use XMS memory /NOEMS tells TranScan to NOT use EMS memory TranScan v5.01 (April 13, 1994) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ General Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o "Swap file not found." error fixed. This was caused when SCAN.EXE, PKUNZIP.EXE, etc. were found in the same directory that TranScan was started from. o Run Time Error 204 at 1087:0669 fixed. o Message Conference in BBS Set-Up was not saved correctly. o GIF Descriptions were not being imported correctly. o GIFLite, GIF2JPG and JPG2GIF were not being processed off-line even if this option is selected. o GIF file date test method was not ignored even when this option was selected. o In "Default Compressor Set-Up" the "Editor" button was not working at the "Fail Archives with files in this list" prompt. o If "Convert Imbedded Compressed Files" was off TranScan would not recompress files either. This also caused files in the TS5.DEL list not to be deleted. o COM output was not always displaying in some Non-Standard IRQ situations. GAP Problem Fixes: ------------------ o GAP passes a RIP id to DOOR.SYS if this option is turned on from GAP's configuration. This allows the displaying of TranScan's RIP graphics display. o TranScan was occasionally creating an empty DESC.SDI even if there was not FILE_ID.DIZ, DESC.SDI, or GIF Comment. Wildcat Problem Fixes: ---------------------- o TranScan would lock up durring local upload. o Wildcat Status Line showed "(LOCAL)" even when caller was not local. o GIF Resolution when "Right" was selected was not formatting correctly. o "Min. Security Level" option on BBS Set-Up was not working correctly. New Features Added: ------------------- o Display Drop File type on Configuration Menu. o "Load Config." now defaults to the directory where TS5 is located and "*.CFG". TranScan v5.00 (April 1, 1994) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New Features added: ------------------- SET TSCFG= ---------- You can include this environment variable before running TranScan to use a different TranScan configuration file. Just include the full path and filename to the new config- uration file. TranScan will create this file if it does not exist and you can configure it. For example: SET TSCFG=C:\WC30\TS5A.CFG SET TSPORT= ----------- You can include this environment variable before running your BBS in a multi-node environment so that when TranScan runs it receives the correct port information for that node.
