Simply run SETUP.EXE to create and generate PcConnect's
file and directory structure and support files. You will
need about a half a Meg of free disk space. Then run p.bat,
and you are done! If you have any problems, and need to
re-run SETUP.EXE, make sure the following files have been
deleted from the current directory BEFORE re-running SETUP:

          QUOTES.BBS - CONFIG.EXE - MENUS.COM - P.BAT
               QUEST1.QST - PCC.EXE - PCC.OVR

                           Gary

New Features:

V3.0 8-16-1989

    1) Long time since any updates. The latest version has a rewritten
message area, and a new user database. Both of these changes
increase performance, and provide better multiple node support.

    2) All the DIR.PCC files that used to reside in individual
sub-directories are now placed into a single directory. This
directory must be specified in the CONFIG. This was done
to improve performance when running PcConnect on a network.

    3) Enhanced support for archives. PcConnect now supports PKARC,
PKZIP, LHARC, and PAK. This is done through the use of Vern
Buerg's excellent File View program FV116. All of these files
MUST be present in your SYSTEM directory for View Arc to work.

    4) Added support for 9600 baud modems. At speeds of 9600 and 19200
the serial ports are locked in, and the modem is responsible for
syncing with the incoming caller. Error correction is also
detected if the modem uses standard CONNECT convention. If yours
does not, please contact Gary so that it can be added.

4-1/2) Whoops. Seems new Hayes modems only allow locking of comm
ports if they are in error correcting mode. A fix has been worked
out using Hayes CARRIER and CONNECT statements. If your modem
is a Hayes 9600, or supports the Hayes standard in this matter,
this version should work fine. If it does not, let me know so
I can get it to work.

    5) New messages pointers are now stored with the user. The old
method merely used your last log-in date. The new method is
       far superior, and more accurate.

    6) If you are upgrading from Version 2 to Version 3, then you MUST
get the files, NEWUSER, CMESS, and NEWFILES so that your old
files can be converted to the new format. You also will probably
want the new File Editor and User Editor. These and all protocols
and all archiving programs can be found on my board.

    7) Thanks again to Jim Singleton and Keith Barney for helping find
bugs, and offer suggestions. Also thanks to my users who have
often had to put up with a bug or two while I was making changes.

V2.03B 9-18-1988

    1) Fixed Jim's problem with the screen blanker, all prompts and message
area should work fine now. Thanks Jim, and sorry for the confusion.

    2) Added support for Jmodem and Wxmodem, the protocol's are on my system.

    3) Must place PCCARK in your SYSTEM directory, it is on my board. Drue
wrote it, I now use it to do the View Arc, it is much faster then Pkarc.

    4) All ANSI bulletins must have their extensions changed from .AN? to .A?
This is so that more then 9 bulletins can be present on the system at
       one time.

    5) Fixed a bug that hung the machine when deleting bulletins, sometimes.

    6) Added the Boyer-Moore method of string search for the Message and File
areas. This provides about a doubling in speed when searching.

    7) The chat mode should be fully operational. Please let me know if there
are any other problems with it. I hardly ever use it, so I do not have
a chance to fully test it out.

V2.02 8-27-1988

    1) Fixes many minor problems with file area if no files existed
in a given area. Thanks to Keith Barney for finding that problem.

    2) Fixes error in on-line sysop edit found by Jim Singleton.

    3) Fixed problems with the Node Chat feature, and improved speed
       in other multiple node features.

    4) Revised carrier checking and ring detect to solve a possible
interrupt conflict on slower machines. Amazingly no one had
       this problem.

V2.01 7-31-1988

    1) Provide Full multi-node support through file-sharing and
optimized background scheduler. Up to 5 nodes are supported
which can be run on a network, or under a multi-tasking
enviroment. Tuned to work with DesqView in 386 mode. Provides
inter-node chatting, and other multiple-node features.

    2) Increased performance in message text searchs, and file searchs.
Increased most by a factor of 3, can scan 2000 files in under 10
       seconds.

    3) Provided increased access control under the sysops direction.

    4) Trivia now makes match on soundex equivilence.

    5) Many features tuned, and many bugs ( most found by Jim Singleton,
who provided LOTS of help, Thanks! ) have been taken care of.
