                              Version 1.1

                              Instructions

Ten scrambled words are presented in each Game. The object of
the game is to unscramble each word as quickly as possible.
The score for each word has two components: The first is the
word value which is the square of the number of letters, i.e.
a 6 letter word has a value of 36. However, each time you
make an incorrect quess or ask the computer to tell you the
next letter the word value is reduced by the value of 1
letter. The second part of the score is the time bonus. When
you finish spelling a word the computer will compute the
fraction of a minute that it took you to spell the word. The
fraction is then applied to the word value to determine the
time bonus. For example if the word value was 22 and it took
you half a minute or 30 seconds to spell the word, your time
bonus would be 11. Here is a HINT: If you can't guess the
first letter use the ? key to help until the spelling becomes
obvious......remember time is important. You will have a
maximum of 1 min to complete each word. Good Luck.....at the
end of each game your score will be compared to the Winners
           List.

           *********************************************************

You should have the following files:

           SCRAMBLE.TPG - Main game program.

           SCRAMBLE.DBF - Word database containing 10,000 words.

CONFIGSC.DBF - The database file which contains the selected
colors, the current date, Minimum Priv level required to play
the game and a logical field indicating whether or not the
sysop has limited play to once per day.

                         SCM-WIN.DBF - Winner's List
                         SCM-NAME.NDX - Name Index
                         SCM-SCOR.NDX - Score Index
                         SCM-DATE.NDX - Date Index

           DATESCM.DBF & DATESCM.NDX - The database and index files
for keeping the names of the players for the current date.
These files are only used if the sysop has chosen to limit
           play to once per day.

           *********************************************************

In addition to the normal main menu items, anyone with a
Priv level of 255 (presumably the sysop) will see an
additional choice for [C]onfiguring the game. This menu will
let the sysop set the game colors, limit play to once per
day, set the minimum privelege level required to play the
game and clear the winners list.

           *********************************************************

A note about the winners list: Every time a player completes
a game the program will search the winners list. If the
player's name is already there, his "old" time will be
replaced only if his current time is lower. In other words, a
player can only appear once on the winners list but he can
improve his standing by bettering his old time. If the player
is not found on the winners list then his time is compared to
the highest time and if it is higher then the old high time
is deleted from the list, the current player is added to the
list and all times are re-ordered. If the current player's
time is not lower than the highest time then the program
checks to see if the oldest entry on the winners list is more
than 30 days old. If there is an entry more than 30 days old
then that entry is replaced with the current entry no matter
what the score. This keeps the winners list fresh by not
allowing an extraordinarily high score to remain on the
           winner's list indefinitely.

Hope you Enjoy - Please let me know if you have ideas about
how to improve the next version.
