% introduction and like stuff (ack)
well, it's been a long vacation and i'm almost embarrassed to be
back. nope, we were never dead. we just took an extended vacation,
I was busy, and I guess everyone else must have been judging by how
much work I got. so we just didn't do anything, and besides, it was
fun checking woezine to see how their comments about us not releasing got nastier every issue. so, it seems pretty dead for the
modding scene, but we still managed to whip out a pack. as I've
said from the beginning, demonic will never die. if I have to make
it seperate releases only (which i'm seriously thinking about) and
i'm the only one that does them, then hey.. cool.
a lot of shit has happend since we last released. lemme me think,
mystic bbs, lucid bbs, iniquity a26r5, working on 2.00, vivid
development, iq hacks, infusion, impulse, vision and obv/2, it
almost seems like a new energy has swept through the bbs modding
and coding scene, though not mod group wise, it's dead down here.
even the pcb and s/x groups arn't doing much. theres a few new
groups, insomnia, whotang, the edge, and a few more. though nothing
mentioning. most of them tend to be ideas rather then groups,
allwell. good ideas. tric is pretty dead, woe is still alive
whether or not they're keeping busy (maybe they'll take a vacation
too) though I heard a rumor some of the seniors left. all's good in
the art scene, as always. those guys complain to much to have it
so good. hehe. anyways, this pack is nothing out of the ordinary
for us, not to big, not to small. go take a look... and for god
sakes, call some bbses.
our ftp site and our web site have been updated and our now located
in my pants, we've got lotsa files online, and more if you leeches
upload, and the page is reorganized, more links more frequently.
our seperate release policy is still, as always in effect, seperate
releases too big to but in the pack (bbs softs, misc programs, bbs
setups, ect) are availible from our dist sites and our ftp...
i'll make this part nice and short, the orgin of demonic. being
genuinly fed up with modding after the deaths of just about all my
old affils (tric, fsw, px, ts, sin, ta) i decided to take up my
own group (well, it was a nifty idea at the time) so i decided to
draft some of my friends from previous groups, i mean, people i
knew farily well and liked the work of. at first i didn't get much
support, but eventually (ie: after the death of most of their
groups and having nothing better to do) we all got together, the
final step in my grand scheme was to actually set a release date
and then pester the hell out of them for their work (this worked
fairly well in most cases) a few odd members joined (i don't know
where they came from but i'm not complaining) and here we are.
that wasn't short damnit...

pretty much out of the group, he's still listed as ill head, just
in case, julian joined, and since jandors not doing anything, he's
obv/2 head now. kargus is now coding head, just because he tries to
hard, and esc has been boosted to iniquity head.
new members.. ok, first off, we were not accepting members for
of the time we were idling, so.. sorry, but if you applied then and
are still interested then please reapply. some people we did grab:
toxic, a itc coder, blooz, an iq developer and artist, and julian,
an oblivion/2 modder.
leaving members.. way to many people to mention have been kicked or
have quit, mostly due to inactivity, if anything of them want to re
join they will be accepted instantly.

Well, i've been reading alot latly about the future of the scene, or
at least what people think/hope/regret it to be. I'd agree with people that
say our scene is going nowhere fast, if it weren't for the fact that I know
we could all change it so easily. The key here is bbsing, notice I didn't
say bbses, there are still plunty of them, but there are so few bbsers that
the ones that are still around unfortunitly won't be for long.
Many of you know, I run a bbs modding group, which some people in the
art scene regard as rather funny, because bbses are dead, right? Then why
the fuck are you guys in the scene at all? Hasn't it ever occurred to you
that ansi is for bbses? Noone draws for them anymore, they only draw for
other artists, and groups, and most artists can't keep a board up for more
then a week, in which they probably change the name of it 20 times. If
someone does want an ansi for their bbs, and they're not an artist, then
they get greeted with a price and a bad attitude, another reason why ansi is
dying.. nothing to draw for, but it's mostly the artists faults. It's not
just the art scene being disassociated with bbses, I saw a warez release the
other day where the file_id.diz was named wrong, and it was even one of the
bigger groups. *sigh*
So what do we do? Telnet boards are far to slow, and telnet it's self
isn't exactly the best thing in the world, and noone wants to get off of the
internet for long enough to call a real board, most of which are long
distance to everyone else. I don't care, I don't like paying for it, but
keeping bbsing alive is worth a little phone bill to me. Well, there's not
many new bbs softwares around, but there's a shit load of older ones sitting
around gathering dust that you could play around with, no matter how bad they
are, that was the point of modding in the first place, take a crappy software
and make it impressive, something to brag about.
It's quite simple though, as people stop using bbses, bbses go down,
as bbses go down, so do modding and art groups. It wouldn't be at all hard
to reverse the process, even if it just meant calling an ld board once a
month, or actually taking requests for art... All the complaints and articles
out there like this one don't do a damn thing unless people will actually
respond to them and do something about it... jp@xtn.net
