╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛

CHATTUNE let's you do the following:

1. (D) Play your default Chat tune
2. (P) Pick and play *.TCS files from the directory ChatTune is in.

NOTE: T.A.G. and ChatTune use RemoteAccess style PAGE files. Maximus
uses a similar style but their files require a little editing.

To make .TCS (T.A.G. Chat Song) files simply rename the music files you
have to have extensions of .TCS.

3. (E) Edit/Compose a T.A.G. Chat song or sound.

│░░░░░░ A LITTLE MORE DETAIL ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛

Options 1 and 2 above should be self explanatory so I won't treat you like
mindless trolls and go into great detail on what they do.

1. (D) - If CHAT.DAT is in the directory it's played, if not the program goes
back to the menu. To abort playing a chat tune press the spacebar.

2. (P) - A directory comes up listing the available .TCS files. (your rodent
works here to move around the directory list. Press the left mouse
button (right mouse button if your mouse is setup left-handed) or
the enter key to play the highlighted Chat tune. Press the escape
key to return to the menu. Again to abort playing a song hit the
         space bar.

3. (E) - A prompt comes up asking for the filename of the Chat tune to
Edit. You have 2 options here

         1. Hit Enter or Escape on the blank prompt to bring up the
directory of .TCS files similar to the (P) option.

Select the file you want to edit the same way as in #2.

         2. Type in a filename to edit and press Enter. (the .TCS
isn't needed.. it's added automatically) If the file
exists, it's loaded into the editor. If the file does
not exist a new file is created.

Notes:

1. TONE [Hz] [1/100 sec] - used for "notes" in music

The TONE verb when played by T.A.G. or ChatTune will play the
sound through your PC speaker at the specified frequency in hertz
    for the period specified.

    100 100th's is one second,

    Example

TONE 301 50 - This would sound your speaker at a frequency of 301Hz
                  (a mid range "D" note) for 1/2 a second.

2. WAIT [1/100 sec] - used for "rests" in music

The WAIT verb turns off the speaker for the specified period of time.

3. Blank lines and lines starting with a semi-colon are ignored by T.A.G..
ChatTune ignores any line that doesn't start with TONE or WAIT (case
    insensitive)

4. ChatTune allows for entry of up to 750, 40 column lines. You shouldn't
need anywhere near that many. Remember you are making short ChatCalls,
    not writing symphonies!

╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛

(My mother the music major will hate me for this, I make no claims to
being any kind of musician)

Musical notes: (the following examples will be for middle C on a piano
                 keyboard)

1. Whole Note (looks like an empty circle on sheet music)
TONE 268 400 (the note is played for 4 beats)
one beat is ~1 second in 4/4 time

2. Half Note (looks like an empty circle with a tail)
TONE 268 200 (the note is played for 2 beats)

3. Quarter Note (filled circle with a tail)
TONE 268 100 (the note plays for 1 beat)

4. Eighth Note (filled circle with a tail with 1 flag on it)
TONE 268 50 (the note plays for 1/2 a beat)

5. Sixteenth Note (filled circle with a tail with 2 flags on it)
TONE 268 25 (the note plays for 1/4 a beat)

6. 32nd Note (filled circle with a tail with 3 flags on it)
TONE 268 12 (the note plays for 1/8 a beat)

The notes above with a dot after them means to play the note for
the time of the note plus one half of the time, for example:

Dotted Eighth note would be TONE 268 75
Dotted Half Note would be TONE 268 300

Review, the following would be values for note Middle C in 4/4 time:

 1. Dotted Whole Note TONE 268 600
 2. Whole Note TONE 268 400
 3. Dotted Half Note TONE 268 300
 4. Half Note TONE 268 200
 5. Dotted Quarter Note TONE 268 150
 6. Quarter Note TONE 268 100
 7. Dotted Eighth Note TONE 268 75
 8. Eighth Note TONE 268 50
 9. Dotted Sixteenth Note TONE 268 38
10. Sixteenth Note TONE 268 25
11. Dotted Sixteenth Note TONE 268 18
12. Sixteenth Note TONE 268 12
