Q: After installing the mail door, I cannot get the mail door to list
some or all of my message areas when selecting "C)hoose Message Areas
for Download" from the door's configuration menu. What's wrong?
A: The most probable cause of this problem is the lack of a QWK Area Name
for the message area(s) that are not being displayed in the door. The
mail door tracks a user's tagged message areas through the use of the
QWK Area Name field (which must be edited with T.A.G.'s message board
editor, option 'L. Qwk Info'). If a QWK Area Name has not been
defined for a message area, the mail door will not process that
message area.
Other possible causes include:
* Security level or flags setting for that particular message area
(in T.A.G.'s message board editor) is too high for the current user
to access it.
* An area description is not present. The mail door will not process
message areas that lack an area description (use the T.A.G. message
board editor to edit the area description).
* Be sure you have not defined an OVERRIDE for the message area with
the BWSETUP.EXE Message Area Override Editor. If you *have* defined
an override, check the override security level you have defined
for that message area.
Q: I want to force a message area ON so that all users who use the mail
door will be forced to download the messages in that area. Can I
do that?
A: Yes, you can. Forced message areas are configured through the use
of the BWSETUP.EXE Message Area Override Editor. Here's what you need
to do:
1) Load BWSETUP, and select the "M)essage Area Override" menu option.
2) Press the INS (Insert) key. The override editor will present a
scrollable selection list of all valid message areas you have
configured on the BBS. Find the area you want to force on and
press ENTER.
3) The override editor will now display that message area as an
override. You can override the settings in T.A.G. for this
message area to your liking. However, to FORCE the message area
on for all users that have read access, press the '!' key.
4) Users will now be unable to turn this message area off through
the mail door or through offline configurations.
Q: The user online has TTY (no graphics) enabled. Why am I getting color
on the local console? Are they getting ANSI color too?
A: No, the door will always display color on the local screen (unless
the -MONO command line switch is used). The remote user will
not get the ANSI and/or AVATAR sequences unless they are enabled.
Q: I want to use The Blue Wave Offline Reader to read packets on my
local machine. What is the best or easiest way to download a mail
packet through the door?
A: Reading mail through the reader is especially handy if you are
running DESQview, OS/2, or some other multitasking software.
You can use the reader to read your mail packets in one window (or on
another machine) while the BBS stays online in another window.
