Telegard Duplicate User Checker v1.04 for Telegard v2.7+

This is a fairly short documentation file outlining general usage and
features of the DUPCHECK.EXE program written by Dan "Lord" Winsor in an
effort to reduce the number of duplicate users logged onto a system (i.e.
users with more than one account, either intentionally or not). As always,
the author cannot be held liable for anything that happens due to the use of
this program, although as always, it has been tested and is safe for all
practical intents and purposes (although perhaps it has a few minor bugs).

Basically, the program works by reading in a user's account and running
through all the users in the list after that account searching for duplicate
information, either a matching real name, address or telephone number.
Although this is a fairly slow and inefficient method, it is tolerable for a
system with a moderate number of users. The program will report matches on
any of the three checked fields, although typically a SysOp is only worried
about users with matching real names since addresses and phone numbers
usually indicate related individuals. The program performs an exact check
only, any differences between strings will not cause a match. If more than
one field matches, as is often the case, only the most important match is
noted (i.e. real name <-- address <-- phone number).

The program is run from any directory where a copy of the STATUS.DAT
Telegard file resides. The program will then use this file to locate where
the USER.LST file is, although if a USER.LST is also located in the current
directory, it will use that one instead, permitting one to copy the
STATUS.DAT and USER.LST files to a ram disk with the program in an effort to
increase the speed of the checking. Other than that, program operation is
fairly simplistic. Merely running the program with no command line options
will begin the checking process, which can be aborted after the current
matching session by pressing any key. If one prefers to output the list of
matched users to a text file (recommended), then one specifies the path and
name of the text file to output to on the command line as the parameter.

This program is written in Turbo Pascal v5.5 and compressed with the
Pklite program using extra compression. Please enjoy and use it on your
Telegard system for whatever purposes you see fit.
