Due to the number of requests from sysop's on "how" to set up
THD ProScan to work with their BBS programs, I am including this explanation
for setup in RA 2.?? (2.00, 2.01 and 2.5?), WWIV, Renegade 07-17 (and 100%
compatible ONLY), Telegard (2.7 and 3.??) , PCBoard (15.?), ProBoard (2.15),
Maximus, EzyCom, Wildcat and T.A.G. 2.7?.
Although it works equally well with other BBS programs, These are the
only programs which I can supply any assistance with. Most of these setup
suggestions have been supplied by users of THD ProScan.
But first a multi-purpose batch file for those wishing to test numerous
files in a single directory.

be warned that only the errorlevel from the last file tested will be
returned to the calling program.
Syntax for this batch file would be C:\THDPRO\DIRTEST.BAT C:\TEST
where DIRTEST.BAT is located in "C:\THDPRO" and "C:\TEST" is the directory
containing the files to be tested.
(Some command processors may require that the "%%F" above be replaced by "%F"
when run from the command line.)

TELEGARD 3.0 (2.99 Gamma 4)

Configure THDPRO.EXE with your desired settings, taking special care to select
TG 3.0 as your BBS type. Supply the path to your main TG directory when asked
and answer "yes" to update file data bases.
Load Telegard
From the WFC press "S" (System config)
Select "F" (File system)
Make sure option "D" is set to "Yes"
Make sure option "U" is set to "Upload Processor"
Select "7" (Upload processor)
enter "C:\THDPRO\THDPRO.EXE ~AF ~CP"
(substitute the correct path to THDPRO.EXE)
enter "0" (for passed errorlevel)
select "8"
enter "yes" to use TESTINFO.DAT
enter "C:\THDPRO\"
(substitute with your THDPRO directory)
Quit back to the WFC
Some users have reported that using THD causes duplicate file entries.
This is almost certainly caused by changes made by THDPLUS.EXE to the TG file
data base(s). To avoid this problem either rename or delete THDPLUS.EXE from
the THDPRO directory. TG will use the TESTINFO.DAT file created by THDPRO.EXE
to update it's file bases and THDPLUS is therefore unnecessary with this
configuration.
THDPRO.EXE runs THDPLUS automatically if it exists in the same directory.
Renaming is recommended to avoid this while it still allows you the
opportunity to run it manually if you should ever require it. Deleting
accomplishes the same result but does not afford the ability to run it
manually.
THDPLUS has not been updated to reflect changes to the latest Telegard
beta. Problems "may" occur if THDPLUS.EXE if not renamed or removed.
Configuring as above will allow TG to update the bases and THDPLUS.EXE should
be removed to avoid problems.

TELEGARD 2.7
------------
Lets start from scratch..
make a dir called C:\THDPRO
change to that directory.
unarchive the THD Proscan archive into that directory.
run THDINSTL.EXE
answer all the questions and double check the settings on the final
screens as if your life depended on it's being correct.
change to your BBS directory.
type TELEGARD -K
press "P"
press "F"
look at option "L".. make note of the path here
shell to dos.
go to the directory just seen in option "L".
copy THDPRO.EXE and THDPLUS.EXE from C:\THDPRO\ to this directory.
return to TG (exit shell).
press "A"
press "M"
press "1" (which I assume will correspond to the "ZIP" archive type)
check the first option to be sure it is marked "ACTIVE" (if not mark it
active).
change line "#6" to read "THDPRO.EXE @F"
Press "Q" until you are back at the "WFC" screen and from their do a local
logon.
Once logged on.. Go to the file section and list the files long enough to
find the name of a single valid "zip" file.
now type at the menu prompt "//\\AT"
enter the name of the "zip" filename you just found using "list"
answer no to delete files question.. and No to search all dirs question.
watch the output on your side to see if the file is being scanned.
The ONLY reason that this process (if followed EXACTLY) would not
work.. is because you have no directory listed under option "L" (as above).
IF you do not have a directory specified there, then change the "line #6"
mentioned above to include the full path "C:\THDPRO\THDPRO.EXE @F".. DO NOT
enter this if there is a path in option "L" or the archive tester will not
be found.
Also.. you might wish to test it from the command line as follows to be
sure that it works.
type
C:\THDPRO\THDPRO.EXE C:\COMMAND.COM
This will show you the scanner at work and if you do not see this type
of screen when run from TG.. then you have failed in configuring TG NOT the
fault of the scanner.
This is FAR more detailed than I had ever hoped to have to get. Any TG
sysop should be able to accomplish this without such detail.. BUT given that
you may never have had to do this before.. Follow the instructions
EXACTLY!!!!

ProBoard 2.15
-------------
Please note that this suggested setting for ProBoard is based solely on
a very quick test on a BBS system I have never used before so it may be in
error.
Note sample screens are based on the 'default' menus etc and yours may
vary depending on modifications you have already made.
A round-about way of updating ProBoard is used because it does not enter
the information into the FILES.BBS until after the upload test is complete.
This suggested setup method causes the following action to occur.
1) User uploads
2) ProBoard runs THDPRO.EXE
3) Proboard returns
4) ProBoard asks the user for a description (if configured).
5) ProBoard creates the FILES.BBS entry (with user description if entered)
6) ProBoard runs THDPLUS.EXE which updates the description
* if conversion was on at the time the filename/size/date are also
updated by THDPLUS at this time.
The secondary running of THDPLUS.EXE is 'much' faster than running an
external utility to re-extract the description since all that data is
already stored for THDPLUS in the TESTINFO.DAT file and it's a VERY
fast action to update the FILES.BBS in this way.
- Run THDINSTL.EXE and select ProBoard as your BBS type.
- Enter the path to your BBS directory (directory with FILECFG.PRO)
- Configure other options as necessary and save.
- Go to your Proboard directory and run PROCFG.EXE
- Select Options ([F1]?)
- Select File Transfer
- Set your "Upload scanner command:" to
C:\THDPRO\THDPRO.EXE @<FILE>@ /C*P
and "type" to "errorlevel".
set "action" and "bad file area" according to your personal preference.
- Hit "<esc>" twice to return to the main selection menu.
- Select Menu Editor ([F9]?)
- Select Files
- in the file menu insert a command immediately after your "upload" command
- select the new command and hit "ENTER" to edit it.
Set the new command up as follows. relevant portions are...

THDPLUS will update your FILES.BBS according to what PB215.DOC says
is the preferred FILES.BBS format...

The 'date' will be entered according to the date format variable in
the filecfg.pro for the area being updated.
To avoid having THDPLUS put the date and size into the FILES.BBS you
would need to set your BBS path to a null string (nothing) in which case
THDPLUS would treat it as a description only type FILES.BBS. This would
also require that the FILES.BBS be located in the same directory as the
file being tested/updated. If the BBS path is specified the FILES.BBS
will be located according to the location recorded in the FILECFG.PRO
file for the specified file path.
** Optionally to the above, you may wish to 'rename' THDPLUS.EXE to
something else and have ProBoard run it by its new name. The advantage to
renaming this file is that THDPRO.EXE will run this file if it exists and
by renaming it you stop THDPRO.EXE from running it automatically which will
save some time on the upload test portion.

Renegade v07-17 Beta
--------------------
1. Make a directory for THD ProScan. We'll assume for now that you've
called it "C:\THDPRO". Change to that directory. Unarchive
the THD ProScan distribution archive into that directory.
2. Run THDINSTL.EXE. Answer all the questions, and double check that the
settings are correct on the final screens.
3. Change to your main BBS directory, and type "RENEGADE.EXE -L".
Press "S" to enter the system configuration menu. Press "A" to enter
the main BBS configuration menu. Look at option "9", your archivers
path, and make a note of the path here.
4. Shell to DOS. Change to the directory you just saw in option "9". If it
doesn't exist, create it. Copy THDPRO.EXE from C:\THDPRO to
this directory. Return to Renegade (type "EXIT").
5. Press "Q" to leave the main BBS configuration menu. Press "L" to
enter the archivers configuration menu. Press "M" to modify an
archiver. Press the number of any archiver that has a "+" in front
of it (in other words, any active archiver) and hit ENTER. Change
option number 6 ("File testing cmdline") to read "THDPRO.EXE %F".
If you are running more than one node, you should change this to read
"THDPRO.EXE %F %P". (You can also do this if you only run one node
if you like, but it's not necessary.) Repeat step number 5 until
you've setup THD ProScan in option number 6 for every active
archiver.
If you followed this process exactly, the only reason it wouldn't work is
if you hadn't defined your archivers directory. (Option "9" from "MAIN
BBS CONFIGURATION".) If you have NOT specified an archivers directory, then
you can change the commandline in each of your archivers to read
"C:\THDPRO\THDPRO.EXE %F". Use the full path ONLY if you haven't already
specified a path in your archivers setup.
Most sysops should be able to figure this out. If THD ProScan DOESN'T work,
then try going through this process once more, and make sure you
follow the instructions EXACTLY.
Note that not mentioned above is the need to have RG swap out prior to
running THDPRO.EXE. Failure to swap RG could result in failed scan sessions
or other memory shortages.

T.A.G. users should simply run THDPRO.EXE from POSTUL.BAT which will
process the description by running THDPLUS at that time. In this case you
would not need a FILETEST.BAT and make POSTUL.BAT look like this... This
method has been recommended to me as the method of choice.

The "if %2 == UPLOAD SET THDPCB=%3" line is ABSOLUTELY required for proper
functioning with PCBoard IF you wish THD to update the description and/or
filename and filesize.
THDPRO.EXE will exit with an errorlevel of 1 or higher if the file fails the
test. It will then exit without changing the PCBFAIL.TXT. However, if the
test is successful, it will delete the "PCBFAIL.TXT" file.

The following assumes that upload security is the primary purpose for
installing an upload virus scanning event in the first place, therefore
I recommend that all uploads in this particular setup be directed to the
SYSOP directory after scanning for sysop/co-sysop inspection prior to
being moved to the appropriate file subdirectories. However, if the
sysop intends to let his/her callers upload directly to the various file
subdirectories (which I do not advise), the command line below will
accommodate this as well.
To Install THD ProScan on your WWIV BBS:
Configure THDPRO.EXE with THDINSTL.EXE (Select "none" as your BBS type).
Run WWIV's INIT program and select 'More System Info' and set
'All UL to Sysop' to YES. (This step is not mandatory, but it is highly
recommended for maximum security. After you examine the uploaded file,
you will have to manually move it to its appropriate subdirectory
yourself).
Select 'External Programs' and for 'Upload Event,' enter the following
command line:

Bring up the BBS and enter directory edit (//DIREDIT). Set UPLOADS in the

Run "THDINSTL.EXE"
During THDINSTL, if you run RA 2.?? and would like THDPRO.EXE to
automatically insert FILE_ID.DIZ comments into RA's File data bases, Be sure
to tell the install that you use RA. And then select the version which is
100% compatible to the version you are running (available from the final
screen). DO NOT enable this option if you are running a "FILES.BBS" oriented
system.
It is important to note that THD treats RA 2.0? and 2.5? differently and
you must select the correct BBS type in THDINSTL.EXE.
** IMPORTANT **
From the final screen of THDINSTL, one of the options is "Failed file
Moving". Be sure to set this to "Inactive". If you do not, it may confuse
RemoteAccess when it is unable to find the file.
Setting up Raconfig:
Run raconfig and select the following menu options:
1/ Options
2/ Files
The following is an example of how to fill in the upload scanning section...
Scan online Yes
Failed scan /unavailable/move to 998
Scan utility C:\THDPRO\THDPRO.EXE @ *P *M
Scan Online is set to yes to allow the user to see straight away
if there are any problems with his upload.
Failed scan action is set to mark the file as unavailable and move it
to file area 998 (an area previously decided to be a badfiles area).
Scan utility runs C:\THDPRO\THDPRO.EXE with following parameters:
@ path and filename of file to be tested
*P com port in use
*M swap RA out of memory to give THD ProScan as much room as possible.
This general outline was supplied by Mark Kerr.
Mark can be reached VIA Fidonet at 2:443/59 for further support in
regards to RemoteAccess.

How to Install ThdPro ver 11.0 in Wildcat BBS. (Wc3.x, 4.x)
Add a line to your autoexec.bat file as follows:
SET THDPRO=C:\WC30\THDPRO
Then add a line in your config.sys if not already there:
INSTALL=C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE
Put ThdPro into a subdirectory on WC30 and do the configuration
using THDINSTL.EXE in the THDPRO directory you created.
then edit the scanfile.bat in Wc30 as follows...
