IMPORTANT CHANGES - FULL Y2K COMPLIANCE
The entire system has been made Y2K compliant with the
introduction of the longer date fields. You can cut the date
back down to 8 characters with the ~ED MCI code for display
purposes, but Telegard itself is handling the dates in
MM/DD/YYYY format now.
To accomplish this without breaking (too many) of the external
utilities, Telegard is storing both the old formats and the new
formats -- HOWEVER, Telegard will only recognize changes made
to the new formats. Thus, any utilities which update any of
the non-Y2K date fields will not be compatible with this
or subsequent releases of Telegard. Those fields are:
* User subscription start and end date
* User firston date
* User birthdate
* User last password change date
* History record date
I tried to minimize the impact these changes would have on the
system. In addition to these changes, since the dates are now
displayed with the full year (unless you use the ~ED MCI
formatter), the language file required several updates as well.
The only place where I *didn't* use the full Y2K date in the
end-user-display is for the file listings, since we were
already tight on display space -- the user will have to use the
FILE INFO command to find out the full Y2K date.
In addition, the door dropfiles used the MM/DD/YY format. I
don't know if this is standard, and I don't know which doors
actually made use of this information actively. Telegard will
output with full Y2K compliant MM/DD/YYYY dates -- if the doors
actually use the information in MM/DD/YY format, please use one
of the compatible scripts to make the door dropfile, and let me
know which doors are using them (so we can create a list of
non-Y2K compatible doors that might be used with Telegard).
Please let me know if I messed up anything anywhere else, the
changes weren't horrendous or anything, but it did take a
little while to get everything up-to-date and I may have missed
something, important or not.
MESSAGES
+ Empty subjects are now allowed (with a warning).
+ Added ability for Telegard to delete ranges of message areas.
PLEASE MAKE BACKUPS BEFORE YOU TEST THIS FEATURE--IT WAS
TESTED FAIRLY EXHAUSTIVELY, BUT I MAY HAVE MISSED CERTAIN
CONDITIONS THAT CAUSE IT TO FAIL. The range of message areas
to delete is all-inclusive (i.e. from->to, including the from
and to areas themselves).
+ Posting messages in an area not in the users scan list will
prompt to add the area to their scan list.
* For local message areas, the sender or receiving user can
now be edited with the R! menu command.
* Message extraction w/o header will no longer export the
-- begin extracted message -- line.
* Local file transfers will not automatically delete the files
from the message or holding area (will be prompted instead).
* Message area SysOps can now transfer files from private areas
even if the message is not a personal message.
MENUS
+ Litebar support was added to Telegards menus sets. The
litebar menus are enabled at certain levels:
1) Menu level
2) User level (if menu level is on, user level must also
be enabled for litebars to work)
3) .ANS/.AVT displays only (or .RIP with fallback)
* Insert and delete will now check for empty names and abort if
a blank name is entered (instead of creating a poorly named
file under OS/2 and linux).
OTHER
* A number of changes to installation & file creation routines
in order to streamline new installations. Archivers and
Protocols will automatically be added based on 'guestimates'
of system setup & configuration. More changes in
installation to come...
* Removed JGROUP.MNU, and replaced it with a script file which
accomplishes the same thing.
TG/2 * Telegard/2 would create the swap path even though it's not
required under OS/2--especially noticable when moving your
root drive around.
+ HOME and END keys have been added to local system input
routines.
+ Editing menus now allows you to easily select from the first
10 language menu sets that you have defined (instead of
having to remember what the path was, or be using that active
language...).
* Fixed a couple of WFC display bugs.
TG/2 * Telegard/2 would not recognize the NATIVE Y command in any
protocol export file (it was setting SUCCESS instead of
NATIVE).
+ History viewer is now paged with [,] commands to make viewing
and reviewing your system history a little easier.
